The Twin Cities IEEE Engineering Management Society invites you to attend a presentation:
From "Necessary Evil" to Competitive Advantage:
A Proposal Primer for Consultants

Presented by Phyllis Brown, J. Gordon Electronic Design.
Thursday April 20, 2006 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Location: J. Gordon Electronic Design
500 73rd Avenue NE, Suite 105, Minneapolis, MN 55432

This is a joint meeting with the Consultants Network

About the Topic:
As consultants, we all tend to consider the preparation of proposals to be a "necessary evil" which distracts us from our "real" work. When you made the decision to become a consultant, you made the decision to become a businessperson as well as a subject matter expert in whatever you consult in. One very real part of your work must be sales and marketing to ensure you have customers for your expertise. The proposal is one of the most powerful sales and marketing tools you have at your disposal. Our March speaker will provide an overview of proposals - why they are so important, guidelines for preparing them and how to use them to your best competitive advantage.

About the Speaker:
Phyllis Brown is the President and owner of J. Gordon Electronic Design, a product development services firm, assisting its customers to develop electronic devices and embedded firmware, as well as PC applications and device drivers to monitor and control such devices. Phyllis has been a part of J. Gordon for almost ten years, participating in all aspects of the business. Starting out as a design engineer, she moved into project management, became VP of Engineering and now owns the business and has primary responsibility for marketing and sales. Throughout her career at J. Gordon, she has participated in the preparation of numerous proposals for product development projects, gaining valuable insights about what makes a successful proposal.
