About the Topic/ Outline:
Intellectual Property Issues in Outsourced Product Development

Companies that outsource product development activity (whether onshore or offshore) do so at the risk of losing their intellectual property, even when development contracts address the problem. As outsourcing continues to extend beyond software into other technologies, identifying and managing such risks takes on greater importance. This talk will outline the major legal and business challenges to avoiding undue exposure to loss of these vital intangible assets.

About the Speaker:

Peter Forrest is an Attorney with Moore & Hansen in Minneapolis. He has a diverse business background, is curious about new technologies, and loves to dig obscure facts out of patent and technical databases. Fortunately, he’s figured out how to practice law at the same time, and his clients benefit greatly from his research and counsel on intellectual property and technology development strategy. Peter’s clients receive broad-based, cost-effective advice based on his balanced practice of creating, licensing, and litigating patent issues. He is certified by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. And, of course, he’s experienced in dozens of technical fields, notably electronics, optics, materials science, computer architectures and applications, data storage, financial and e-commerce methods, and many types of medical devices. Clients throughout the U.S., the Pacific Rim and Europe value his services. Peter has a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Seattle University, a law degree from William Mitchell College of Law, and a Master of Science degree in Management of Technology from the University of Minnesota.
