CAPABILITY MATURITY MODELS:®

The Journey from the CMM® to the CMMI®

John Travalent
Senior Staff Engineer, Lockheed Martin Tactical Systems

Wednesday, September 22, 2004
6:30pm to 8:30pm

Lockheed Martin Tactical Systems
3333 Pilot Knob Road, Eagan, MN

About the Speaker:

John Travalent is a Sr. Staff Engineer in the Technical Vitality and Support Group at Lockheed Martin Tactical Systems in Eagan, Minnesota.  He has over 35 years of software and systems related experience which has included technical and management responsibilities in computer aided software engineering (CASE), engineering analysis and factory automation, and computer aided design (CAD) applications.  He has worked with Capability Maturity Models and been involved with company assessments, evaluations, and process improvement since 1988 and is a certified SCAMPI appraiser.  John received his BSEE and MSEE from St. Louis University and Kansas University respectively.

About the Meeting:

The Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI®) project is a collaborative effort to provide models for achieving product and process improvement in software engineering. The primary focus of the project is to build tools to support improvement of processes used to develop and sustain systems and products. The output of the CMMI project is a suite of products, which provides an integrated approach across the enterprise for improving processes, while reducing the redundancy, complexity and cost resulting from the use of separate and multiple capability maturity models (CMM®s).

This presentation provides a brief review of the Software and Systems Engineering precursor models, a description of the CMMI architecture including model representations, maturity levels and capability levels, process areas, and a brief description of  appraisal methods.
