Management Society invites you to attend a presentation:
Presents:
"Overview of Wind Power Generation"
Charlie Grunewald, P.E., DH Blattner & Sons
Thursday, October 5, 2006 6:00pm to 8:30pm
Hosted by: St. Thomas University - Room OSS110. OSS is building 40 on the

7:00 to 8:00 Main presentation
8:00 to 8:30 Questions and networking.
About the Topic:
A topic much in the news and on our minds these days is US dependence on
foreign oil. Interest in alternative energy sources is at a peak. Our
speaker this month will give us an overview of the technical and management
challenges of wind farming. The presentation will cover:
-Technical orientation on today’s wind farm (generator size, type and
capabilities, collector systems, substation and transmission interconnect)
-Construction challenges -Integration cost, transmission access, power
purchase agreements -Management challenges -Types of wind resources and
associated market for wind energy -Future for wind generation in general and
for the Minnesota region, in particular -What needs to happen to reach wind
integration objectives
About the Speaker:
Charlie Grunewald has been involved in wind power generation since he was
kid fixing windmills. He has been involved in many aspects of the power
generation industry, including journeyman lineman, trouble man, and diesel
plant operator before going to North Dakota State University and graduating
with a BSEE. He worked for 40 years directly for utilities; 36 years with
Otter Tail Power and
4 years with NSP/Xcel. His work at the utilities included rate and
regulatory work, managing R&D supporting new energy applications, heading up
transmission planning, delivery planning and being task force leader for the
NSP Buffalo Ridge wind projects. Charlie has worked for the latter part of
his career in the consulting business, first for Excel Engineering on wind
project design and currently for DH Blattner & Sons.
Cost:
Free for EMS members and non-members attending for the first time; $10
otherwise. Refreshments will be provided.
